The basin (or "bazin") is the cotton damasked fabric used to make glossy boubous in West Africa.
The word "basin" comes from Italian where "bambagia" means the cotton wadding, the word meaning "good basin".
Africouleur's basin is hand dyed in Togo following traditional techniques. It is the fabric of choice for Ferouz ALLALI's creations of clothing and household linen in her shop. Each piece created by hand is unique. It is an expensive fabric compared to wax, more common, not damasked, and whose colors are printed by machine.
When Ferouz imagines a new line of clothing, she works with the togolese dyers of Africouleur, and both choose fabrics on the market and participate to the creation of color sets.
Patterns rings or strips are obtained by folding or knotting the tissues. This work prevents colors from entering certain parts of the fabric thus protected during the dyeing. During the latter, the fabrics are immersed in baths of pigments mixed with a fixative.
The fabrics are 100% cotton are solid and the colors are also of outstanding longevity. The maintenance of our textiles is very simple, they are washable linen by machine at 30 ° (Wash separately the first time). The shiny original gloss is easy to restore starching the tissue while ironing.
In addition to its line of clothes and household linens, Africouleur markets, by unity or larger amounts, pieces of basin. You can enjoy a few colors and patterns below. To order thank you note the references that might interest you and feel free to contact us.
